Military Moves and PCS

Most military moves are arranged through the service's own transportation system, so your first stop should be your transportation office. If you're doing a personally procured move or moving outside that system, we can price it.

Your route

Moves that cross a state line only. No obligation.

Know which kind of move you have

Government-arranged move. Your transportation office and the Defense Personal Property System handle carrier assignment. You don't pick a mover from a website for this kind of move, and we are not presenting ourselves as an approved military carrier.

Personally procured move (PPM). You arrange the move yourself and get reimbursed under the program's rules. Hiring a commercial mover may be possible as part of a PPM. Confirm the details with your transportation office before you pay anyone.

Private move. Some moves, such as retirement moves outside entitlement, are simply paid by you, and work like any other interstate move.

Before you book a PPM

  1. Get counseling from your transportation office, and get approval in writing.
  2. Ask how your weight allowance applies and what evidence you need.
  3. Keep empty and full weight tickets where they're required.
  4. Keep all receipts and your bill of lading.
  5. Ask about valuation and how claims are handled when you've arranged the mover yourself.

Chicagoland and military moves

Naval Station Great Lakes is in Lake County, and service members often move in and out of the region. If you're at the end of your service, or moving under a PPM, send your route on this page.

Destination-specific tips are on our route pages, including San Diego.

Questions

Can I choose you for my PCS?

Government-arranged moves are assigned through the military system. If you're doing a PPM, ask your transportation office whether you can use a commercial mover.

Do you offer a military discount?

We don't publish one. Ask when we go through your estimate.

What paperwork do I need for reimbursement?

Ask your transportation office. It commonly includes your orders, weight tickets, receipts and your bill of lading.
