Chicago Long Distance Movers

We move households from Chicago to other states and from other states to Chicago. That is the whole business: no local jobs compete for the crew or the truck.

  • Interstate and cross-country moves only
  • A price range for your route before you share contact details
  • Written estimate based on your actual inventory

Moves that cross a state line only. No obligation.

Long distance is all we do

Most Chicago moving companies earn their living on local jobs: a two-bedroom from Lakeview to Logan Square, a crew paid by the hour, finished by dinner. A move to Phoenix is a different kind of work. It is priced by weight and distance, governed by federal rules, and your belongings stay in someone's care for days.

We built this company around that second kind of move. If your new home is in Illinois, we are not the right call, and we will tell you so on the first screen of the quote form.

Federal registration: in process

Expert Movers is completing its federal motor carrier registration. Our U.S. DOT number will be published here as soon as it is issued, and you can check it in the FMCSA SAFER database before you sign anything.

Where we move people from Chicago

These are the lines people ask about most often. Each route page covers distance, the usual corridor, planning prices by home size and what tends to complicate delivery at the far end.

The same lines run in reverse. Moving to Chicago from New York, California, Florida, Texas or Boston? We know what waits at this end of the trip: alleys, freight elevators and street parking that has to be arranged ahead.

What a long-distance move costs from here

Price follows two things: how much your household weighs and how far it travels. Season and access add to that, but these two set the range.

These are planning ranges to help you budget. They are not a quote, because no two households weigh the same. For your exact route, use the form at the top of this page or the moving cost calculator, and read how long-distance pricing works if you want the details.

From first price to delivery day

  1. Check your range. Enter two cities and a home size. You see a planning range right away.
  2. Share your inventory. We go through what you are moving, on site or by video, because a written estimate needs a real survey of your belongings.
  3. Get a written estimate. It states the type of estimate, the services and the charges. The difference between binding and non-binding estimates matters, so we explain which one you are getting.
  4. Review the paperwork. Federal rules give you the bill of lading at least three days before loading and two consumer booklets with your estimate.
  5. Load, travel, deliver. The crew builds an itemized inventory at loading. You check it again at delivery and note anything missing or damaged.

Pickups across Chicagoland

We load in the city and throughout the suburbs: the North Shore and Lake County, DuPage County, the northwest and southwest suburbs. A long-distance truck does not fit everywhere a local van does, so we ask about your street, driveway and building before moving day.

Loading from a downtown tower or a two-flat with an alley has its own routine. Parking permits, elevator reservations and building insurance certificates are covered on our Chicago moving logistics page.

Who we are not for

  • Moves inside Illinois. We do not take them, even long ones such as Chicago to Carbondale.
  • Local moves. Chicago to Naperville is a job for a local crew.
  • International moves and car shipping. We don't offer either.

Honest fit saves everyone time. If your move does cross a state line, the form above takes less than a minute.

Questions

Do you do local moves in Chicago?

No. We only handle moves that cross a state line, so a move within Chicago or Illinois needs a local mover.

How far ahead should I book a long-distance move?

Earlier is better, and summer is the tightest season. Four to eight weeks gives you room to compare written estimates and settle building logistics. If your date is sooner, send the form anyway and we will tell you what is possible.

Is the price in the calculator what I will pay?

No. It is a planning range based on typical weights and distance. Your final price depends on your written estimate, which follows a review of your actual inventory.

Can you move me to Chicago from another state?

Yes. Inbound moves work the same way as outbound ones. Start the form with your current city and Chicago as the destination.

How do I check that a long-distance mover is legitimate?

Look up the mover's U.S. DOT number in the FMCSA SAFER database and read our guide on choosing a long-distance mover. Any interstate mover's ads must show that number once registered.
